Delivering for Northwest Washington

June was a busy month in Congress.

This month, I helped advance bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the Northwest Straits Commission. The Commission's bottom-up approach has ensured that local communities have the resources and expertise they need to keep marine habitats healthy and recover endangered and threatened species, including Southern Resident Killer Whales and salmon.

National Fisherman: House passes bill to reauthorize Northwest Straits Commission

This bill provides the necessary funding for the Commission to continue its work to restore the marine ecosystem of the Northwest Straits region and support local jobs. The Northwest Straits region contributes 16,000 jobs to Washington's commercial and recreational fishing industries and $150 million in economic output for the state's aquaculture industry.

Finally, I voted against legislation that would provide billions of dollars to immigration enforcement. I will continue to oppose funding ICE until the agency is required to follow the same rules as every other local, state, and federal law enforcement agency.

Yesterday, I voted no. Yesterday, I voted no on the partisan bill to fund ICE, and I will continue to oppose funding ICE until the agency is required to follow the same rules as every other local, state, and federal law enforcement agency.

I proposed amendments to instead spend these dollars helping families recover from natural disasters, growing the local economy, supporting veterans and their families, helping local law enforcement fight drug trafficking, and educating students with disabilities.

As Congress considers funding priorities, I will continue advocating for lowering costs for hard-working families and bringing investments home to Northwest Washington.

Before the final end-of-quarter deadline ahead of the Primary Election, will you donate $7 so we can continue standing up for Northwest Washington and build a better future for our communities?

More soon,

Rick
