Yesterday, I voted no.

Yesterday, I voted no on the partisan bill to fund ICE, and I will continue to oppose funding ICE until the agency is required to follow the same rules as every other local, state, and federal law enforcement agency.

Congress has a responsibility to defend the American people from this lawlessness. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle must unite in this effort and assert our constitutionally mandated congressional oversight authority to hold the Administration accountable. We must stop this violence before more lives are lost.

But once again, Republicans are ignoring bipartisan calls for reform and instead advanced a bill that gives ICE and CBP 70 billion taxpayer dollars without any guardrails.

Rather than spending these dollars on ICE, I proposed amendments to spend these dollars on helping families recover from national disasters, growing the local economy, supporting our veterans and their families, helping local law enforcement fight drug trafficking, and educating students with disabilities.

Republicans blocked every single one of these amendments.

Taking back the House in November will be critical to holding Republicans responsible for their actions and having enough votes to fight back.
