How to make sure your vote counts in Washington
Washington voters deserve confidence that when they cast a ballot, it will be counted.
National efforts to restrict or undermine voting by mail make understanding Washington's system especially important.
As you make your voting plan, here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Use an Official Ballot Dropbox: To ensure your vote is counted, return your ballot directly to an official county ballot dropbox. Dropboxes do not rely on postal transit times and are locked and available up until 8 p.m. on Election Night.
- Mail Your Ballot Early: If returning your ballot by mail, we strongly recommend putting it in the mail at least one week ahead of Election Day to ensure it receives an on-time USPS postmark.
- Double-Check Your Signature: Every signature on the return envelope is checked against your voter registration record. If a signature is missing or doesn't match, county election officials will contact you so you can fix it before your ballot can be processed.
Don't wait until the last minute; check the official Washington election site for current deadlines and return options.
