The ballot is set
The ballot is set, and I am ready to get to work.
Representing Northwest Washington is one of the greatest privileges of my life. My family has called Northwest Washington home for over 100 years. My father was a union power line worker, and my mom managed the books at home while raising eight kids in Arlington.
They embodied the values that unite us: working hard, caring for each other, and serving the community. These values guide my work in Congress, and I look forward to meeting voters across Northwest Washington, discussing their top-of-mind issues and earning their support.
Will you chip in today to my re-election campaign and help us start filing week strong?
I filed to run for re-election this week because there is more we can accomplish for Northwest Washington. Some of my top priorities for next term include:
- Addressing affordability and lowering costs: Prices are far too high, harming the pocketbooks of working families, and I will work to bring down costs. We need reinvestments in career and technical education and training so that our students and workers are trained for good, family-supporting careers like those in aviation, manufacturing, and engineering.
- Lowering prescription drug prices and ensuring access to health care: I believe health care is a right, and I support universal coverage, but even with good insurance, the costs are high. For years, drug companies have tried to block competitive pricing. I helped pass landmark legislation that allows Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices, caps out-of-pocket drug costs for seniors, and caps insulin copays at $35 per month, all while cutting the deficit by $300 billion.
- Hold ICE accountable: President Trump's immigration enforcement agenda has harmed families and children here in Northwest Washington and across our country.ICE must follow the same standards as other local and state law enforcement agencies. I am fighting for reforms to the Department of Homeland Security.
- Supporting our veterans: Northwest Washington is home to 47,000 veterans, which is 7.6 percent of the district's population. From my first days in office, I have made working with the veterans of Northwest Washington a top priority for my office. Together, we have made great progress in improving access to services for our veterans, but I know there is more work to be done. I am focused on making sure veterans have access to high-quality, timely health care, affordable housing, educational opportunities, and fulfilling employment.
These issues, along with many others like protecting our democracy, tackling the climate crisis, and getting fentanyl off our streets, are issues that make a real, tangible difference for you and your families.
Warmly,
Rick
