The Republican Rip-Off (still) wants to cut the ACA

Today marks the anniversary of the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Sixteen years later, the ACA continues to save lives, expand coverage, and have a positive impact on those who sign up.

Last year, enrollment hit a historic level, with 24.3 million people covered under health insurance through the Affordable Care Act. That was a 13% increase over 2024 figures, and included nearly 4 million people enrolling in ACA Marketplace plans for the first time.

Despite enrollment reaching a record high and millions of American families relying on the ACA for coverage, the Republican Rip-Off has undermined our access to affordable care. 2026 marks the first year since 2020 that enrollees in the ACA Marketplaces do not have access to enhanced premium tax credits, and initial numbers for 2026 enrollment show that enrollment is down as a result.

This is not new. The Chaos Caucus is consistently looking for opportunities to cut the funding of the ACA.

Further rolling back the ACA would not just rip away critical care from the millions of people using Marketplace plans — but millions of Americans could lose their health insurance altogether — think young adults afforded the option to stay on their parents' plans until age 26, people suffering from pre-existing conditions that could legally be denied care, and more.

Make no mistake, the Republican Rip-Off's plan to cut funding for the ACA has always been a ploy to hand trillions in tax cuts to the richest Americans and wealthiest corporations.

We will not let that stand.

I believe that health care is a right. As always, we are going to fight back for Washingtonians and the millions of Americans who benefit from the provisions of the ACA.

More soon,

Rick
