Elections should belong to voters, not billionaires

Folks in Northwest Washington deserve to participate in a fair election and have the right to know who is spending money to influence elections.

But in today's political environment, wealthy special interests and dark money groups are spending millions to influence elections while hiding who is actually funding those efforts. That kind of secrecy undermines trust in our democracy and leaves working families wondering whose interests are really being represented.

For years, I have supported efforts to increase transparency in our elections and shine a light on dark money spending so voters know exactly who is trying to influence their vote. That is why I am reintroducing the DISCLOSE Act, legislation to end dark money in American elections and make government more accountable to the will of voters. The bill is sponsored by all 47 senators who caucus with Democrats, and 138 Democrats in the House. I have supported this legislation since 2010.

Now, as we approach the first end-of-quarter fundraising deadline of the Election Year, our campaign is focused on building the grassroots support needed to win in 2026 and help take back the House of Representatives.

Reclaiming the House in 2026 is essential if we want to restore order in Congress and begin making real progress again on the issues that matter most to Northwest Washington — addressing affordability, strengthening economic opportunity, protecting vital services, and ensuring that government works for the people.

Preparing for that work begins now. Early support from grassroots donors helps ensure our campaign is ready for the fight ahead and shows that our movement is powered by people, not by secret money or special interests.

Together, we can continue building a campaign that stands up for the values of Northwest Washington and works to make our democracy stronger and more transparent.

More soon,

Rick
