A massive piece of defense legislation
Last week, the House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (FY26 NDAA). It's a massive bill that sets defense policy and future funding levels for our own Department of Defense.
Rick co-authored an amendment for the FY26 NDAA that would help Island Health Hospital in Anacortes receive significant cost savings. Island Health serves a significant number of local servicemembers, and Rick's amendment would help the hospital maintain current services. Unfortunately, the Chaos Caucus is uninterested in helping the people of Skagit County, and the amendment did not pass. But our fight does not stop here. Rick is continuing to work on improving health care access in Anacortes and the broader region.
Ultimately, Rick voted "no" on the House-passed NDAA. He opposed the NDAA because his Republican colleagues turned a bipartisan bill into extremist legislation targeting healthcare for servicemembers, their kids, and the LGBTQI+ community.
Even under the attacks of this administration, Rick continues to speak out for the values of Northwest Washington. This fight for our values is arduous, but it's possible with all of us working together.
More soon,
