Seattle will be hosting 6 World Cup matches
Earlier this month, I took a tour of Lumen Field along with representatives from the Seattle World Cup 26 Committee. Just over a year from now, Seattle will be hosting 6 World Cup matches, and I wanted to know what we are doing to prepare.
The World Cup games are estimated to bring over 1.4 million people to our region. And from visitors buying local products, staying in hotels, and dining in restaurants, Northwest Washington is projected to see tens of millions of dollars in investments. The World Cup will be a big opportunity for Northwest Washington to shine, and we need to make sure we have the proper infrastructure in place to support it.
Co-hosting the world's largest sporting event with Canada and Mexico will showcase our communities to a global audience and do wonders to promote soccer in the United States. So as a co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Soccer Caucus, I look forward to working with the White House's newly created World Cup Task Force.
An event the size of the World Cup requires coordination across the federal government and with state, local, tribal, and international partners, particularly the co-host nations. Together, we will ensure the FIFA 2026 Men's World Cup is a success.
More soon,
Rick Larsen
