How Trump’s tax plan will impact NW Washington Families:
It is Tax Day. Right now, you may be sitting in the uncertainty of a "90-day pause" on tariffs, or wondering about how Trump's tax scam will impact your household's bottom line this time next year.
Last week, Trump announced a partial retreat on his trade war after the stock market nosedived and mass public outcry. But his 90-day pause is too little too late. This White House has already imposed the highest tariff rates since 1936. The cost to families in Northwest Washington could be as much as $4,000 a year. Trump's senseless trade war is yet another part of his Republican Rip-Off, and it will further raise the cost of food, gas, and manufactured goods.
That theme continues with the Republican budget and tax plan.
Their budget betrays the middle class by gutting services that help millions of families afford health care, groceries, and education. Instead of lowering the cost of everyday items for American families, they are focused on handing a $4.5 trillion tax cut to the richest Americans and corporations.
Under the Republican budget plan, families in our district will see cuts to health care and other essential services, including:
- 34,000 people covered under the Affordable Care Act will see annual premiums increase by $1,460 on average;
- 186,000 people could lose health care coverage through Medicaid, including more than 80,000 children and 18,000 senior citizens;
- 93,000 people will be at risk of losing food benefits, making food more expensive, or forcing them to go without.
In summary, rather than standing up to Trump and his fixation on tariffs, the Chaos Caucus is focused on pushing forward with the Republican Rip-Off. On this Tax Day, I promise to keep up the fight to improve the lives of Northwest Washingtonians and stand up against the Republican Rip-Off.
