Democracy itself is at stake

I am appalled at what has been revealed so far by the January 6 committee.

The conspiracy to overthrow the election after Donald Trump lost the 2020 election? It was not isolated, limited to just a few people taking matters into their own hands.

The riot that damaged the Capitol, injured 140 law enforcement officers, and led to five deaths? It was not "just a rally that got out of control."

By all the evidence we have seen so far, what happened on January 6, 2021, was the culmination of a coordinated effort that included senior members of Donald Trump's inner circle.

And never forget this: The Republican leadership in the House wanted to sweep this all under the rug – to pretend that it never happened. If Trump's MAGA allies in the House – including GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy – take control in this election, they will shut down the committee, end the investigation, and let them all off the hook.

I am asking you to donate now to help build our grassroots movement to defend American democracy?

You know me: I am not afraid of a good debate with opposing points of view. Some of my best friends disagree with me – sometimes in strong terms and on a wide range of issues.

Healthy debate is a hallmark of American democracy. But what happened on January 6, 2021, was an unacceptable transgression of our patriotic values. The January 6 conspiracy, and those within our government who aided it, is an institutional rot that aims to dissolve our nation's legitimacy from within.

Please chip in $12 before the upcoming June end-of-quarter fundraising deadline, because accountability and answers must include a strong rejection of these attacks on our democracy.
