One way to help out

If you are looking for a way to help out your community, the American Red Cross is calling for volunteers to donate blood. The need for blood is constant, but especially impactful during a public health crisis. Your donation is important for a stable blood supply.

I urged the FDA last month to overturn restrictions on blood donations by gay and bisexual men. Since then, the FDA has eased those restrictions.

If you are hesitant to donate blood, but would still like to help out, the Red Cross is collecting monetary contributions. You can help the Red Cross continue to deliver its lifesaving mission nationwide due to this public health emergency.

Adapting to the challenges of Coronavirus: The Red Cross is working hard to ensure we can: *Maintain a sufficient supply of blood to help patients in need and prevent any shortages, provide critical relief services to people affected by disasters big and small.

The Red Cross and the FDA are also looking for people who have fully recovered from COVID-19 to donate plasma to help current coronavirus patients.
