Our coastal communities at risk

The effects of climate change are felt far and wide. Epic heatwaves. Endless fire seasons in the west. Devastating extreme weather events.

But they're also felt very personally here in Northwest Washington.

I'm talking about the families that depend on our coastal waters to make a living. I'm talking about a way of life that's literally dissolving before our eyes.

Ocean acidification. It sounds odd, sure. But it's exactly what's threatening wildlife and destroying industries.

Example: last month, I visited an oyster company in our district. For three generations, they've been working our coastal waters. But it all could come crumbling down if we don't get a handle on climate change – right now.

I guess the plight seems far away to the climate change deniers in Congress, but, without aggressive action, companies like this one could very well close up in the near future.

That's why it's critical to do more than just talk. So, recently, I backed two House bills to take on ocean acidification and support businesses that are at risk thanks to climate change and its impact on our coastal waters.

One step at a time, we can do our part. Climate change is real, but so is our ability to fight it and protect families and communities that are being impacted right now thanks to it.

Chip in $3 today. Stand with me as we step up and fight this global (and local) crisis.
