Larsen Endorsed by National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare
Everett, WA – Today the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare announced they are endorsing Rick Larsen for Representative in the 2nd Congressional District.
In a letter to Larsen, Barbara Kennelly, President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare said “Our nation needs your leadership, vision and determination to fight for working families and older Americans…You understand that congressional efforts to privatize Social Security, which would undermine the most successful social insurance program ever, continue. The National Committee members and supporters want you to continue protecting Social Security and Medicare – twin pillars necessary to a good quality of life for Americans of all ages – in the United States House of Representative.”
“Rick Larsen believes in strengthening our Social Security system,” said Brooke Davis, Campaign Manger for Rick Larsen. “Washington state seniors have spent a lifetime contributing to Social Security, and Rick believes they are entitled to the benefits they have earned. Rick Larsen knows we owe it to future generations to keep Social Security solvent and not take unnecessary risks with it,” Davis concluded.
In contrast, earlier this year Rick’s opponent John Koster acknowledged his support for privatization going back at least a decade: “I advocated for those ten years ago,” Koster said. Koster believes “individual retirement accounts will work.”
“John Koster’s support for Social Security privatization has been clear for over ten years,” said Davis. “Just because Koster’s finally realized voters are upset with his scheme to reduce Social Security benefits and gamble seniors’ retirement security on Wall Street, doesn’t make his support for privatizing Social Security any less true.”
