Standing With Seniors

I stood with seniors in opposing the draconian Republican Budget that would have ended Medicare as we know it by converting it to a voucher system.

The foundation of Medicare is the guaranteed benefit. The Republican Budget would have ended the guarantee of care and increase costs for seniors. Tens of thousands of seniors in Northwest Washington depend on Medicare as their only source of health care coverage. The Ryan Budget would have slashed care while providing even more tax cuts to the very wealthy in this country.

I am working to improve Medicare by changing its focus from the quantity of tests and procedures to the quality of care. I supported legislation to save Northwest Washington seniors in the Medicare donut hole $1,000 this year alone.

I am committed to securing the long-term future of Social Security and Medicare and protecting their guaranteed benefits.
