Gun Prevention

I was proud to follow the leadership of civil rights legend Rep. John Lewis to join a sit-in on the floor of the House of Representatives in June 2016 to demand a vote on sensible legislation to help prevent future gun violence in this country.

From Lynnwood to the San Juan Islands, people from across the 2nd District have called and reached out on social media to express support for this effort. Folks are fed up, and so am I.

Gun violence is an epidemic that has affected too many people. For years, legislation to prevent gun violence has been a nonstarter, but I believe as a country we are experiencing a turning point.

I have called on members on both sides of the aisle to work with me on gun violence prevention: to ban military-style assault weapons, lift the ban on federally funded research into the causes of gun violence, and strengthen our system of background checks.

No single law can prevent the actions of a madman, but there are actions we can take to save American lives today.

There comes a time when – no matter the odds – you have to say ‘enough is enough’ and act.
