I want to see the label "Made in America"
My number one priority is building an environment where businesses can create jobs and thrive.
Two years ago, the U.S. economy collapsed. The impacts of this collapse have been felt by all - from businesses closing their doors, to families losing their homes, to local communities cutting services.
Following this collapse, I made some difficult choices. I believe those choices were critical to right the ship and get our economy back on course. Right now we are inching our way out of the recession. But I want to see us move by feet.
I want to see the label “Made in America” again.
I want to ensure the Air Force refueling tanker is built by the best aerospace workers in the world - right here in the Pacific Northwest. I believe that Boeing will build the best tanker for our men and women in uniform. This will also ensure thousands of manufacturing jobs for our communities - from Everett to Bellingham.
“Made in America” means we need to support small and medium sized businesses export their products – not their jobs – overseas. Right now almost one in three jobs in Washington state are tied to foreign exports. I want to support these family wage jobs. That is why I’ve worked on a Small Manufacturers Export Program to help small and medium sized businesses in the 2nd District with export opportunities around the world.
And I am working to help small businesses gain access to credit so they can grow and thrive.
This is no time to go backwards to the policies of the past. It defies common sense that the steps that created the recession should be the same ones that lead us to recovery.
I am doing all I can to help turn our local economy around.
