President Elect Donald Trump made a huge statement by selecting Steve Bannon as his chief strategist. And not a good one.
Steve Bannon is not a person who can help unify our country. He has spent his career defending the fringe of the Republican Party. He has openly promoted racism, misogyny and xenophobia. The alt-right should not be walking the halls of the White House or have a direct line to the President. This is just downright frightening.
I stand with the Anti-Defamation League, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and the People for the American Way in denouncing President-elect Trump’s appointment of Steve Bannon.
In Washington state, our diversity is one of our strengths. I want communities of color and all marginalized communities to know I am going to continue to stand with them to ensure that even if the President-elect does not believe in inclusiveness, at least their Member of Congress does.
I have had enough. The fear spreading through our communities was just affirmed in this pick. We must get to work today. Join me.
